Count Me as Confused About this Whole Boston.com/BostonGlobe.Com Thing

Boston.COM - The Boston Globe today launches a new subscription-only website, BostonGlobe.com, betting that readers will be willing to pay for an online product that offers an innovative, inviting reading experience that is the only gateway to all of the Globe’s journalism. For the rest of September, BostonGlobe.com will be free, but after that readers will have to pay $3.99 a week for a digital-only subscription. Home delivery subscribers will not have to pay extra for the site but will need to register online to gain access.

Are you as confused as I am about this whole, Boston.com/Bostonglobe.com thing? I mean I’ve known that boston.con wasn’t the exact same thing as the boston globe, but also knew you could get the entire globe there. What’s the point of boston.com if the globe has it’s own website, outside of Love Letters and the bi-weekly cycle of best pizza places in boston/things to do for cheap in boston/fun drink of the season in boston?

This FAQ section didn’t clear up anything. I mean, do I have to sign up and pay for boston globe or not? On the one hand it sounds like they’ve formed the new website to separate anything that’s actually in the globe, on the other these FAQ’s are vaguely saying all the same stories will be there…how is this possible? I mean weren’t 90% of the news stories on boston.com from the globe? I come there for news, not these local blogs you’ve been pushing on me lately.

Oh wait...The Globe thinks I'm going to pay $3.99 a week for the internet? That's a joke, right? You expect people to pay $207 a year for an online newspaper? Ha. Nice try Globe. You're not the Wall Street Journal, not unique or overly important in any way shape or form. I think I'll do just fine reading all the other Boston news outlet websites for free, not gonna miss much...Plus, Meredith Goldstein is still gonna be on Boston.Com, that's all I really need anyway.

PS: Isn't the NY Times still free? You guys think you're better than the NY Times?
